This is my first massage ever. What should I expect?

Coming into the studio for your first ever massage can be a little scary for some. But we are here to put your mind at ease with the entire process…It is helpful to your body if you come to your massage hydrated, so drinking some water on the way to your appointment would be great. We have complimentary water to offer you as well. There are restrooms on both the first and second floors of the building that we encourage you to use before your appointment to ensure you are comfortable during your session.

When you arrive at the studio, your therapist will greet you and ask that you fill out a client intake form, then you’ll have a brief consultation to determine what your goals are for the session. You will also be informed what areas will be massaged, and we want you to tell us if there are any areas mentioned that you DO NOT want worked on. You will then be shown into the treatment room where you will be left to undress to your level of comfort, and this is where it seems many are not sure what the “right” thing is to do. There is honestly no right or wrong here-only what works for YOU. It is not necessary to undress completely. We see clients fully dressed to fully undressed, and everything in between! There are some men who only take off their shirt and lay on top of the blankets, and other folks that feel comfortable being fully undressed under the blankets. Many clients choose to leave their underwear on. So, do what makes you feel the most at ease and it will be just fine!

If you do choose to undress, we ask that you get onto the table under the sheets. Once you are ready, your therapist will re-enter the treatment room and begin your massage session. During your massage you will be covered by a sheet and blanket, other than the area being massaged. Your therapist will check in with you a few times to make sure the pressure being used is comfortable for you. If anything is ever uncomfortable or painful please tell your therapist! The amount of pressure and techniques used can easily be adjusted.

Our #1 priority is your comfort! Therefore, we really do want to know if there is anything that you need done differently during your massage.

This is YOUR time…

We are happy to adjust our pressure and/or technique, your position, table temperature and/or music at any time for your optimum comfort.

At the conclusion of your massage your therapist will exit the treatment room allowing you to get dressed and meet them in the reception area.

Allow roughly 15 minutes in addition to your session time for your consultation and getting dressed.

If you have any questions that weren’t answered here just reach out to us and we will make sure they do get answered.

Should I leave a tip?

While it is a wonderful way to show your therapist that you appreciate their service, gratuity is completely up to your discretion. Our therapists love what they do, and will never expect that you should tip them.

How often should I get a massage?

The recommended schedule for you will vary depending on the goals for your treatment.
Once or twice a month is usually recommended for continuous benefits to be enjoyed from massage therapy. However, if you are trying to resolve an issue, once a week or more may be optimum.

Can I get a massage if I'm pregnant?

For the majority of expecting moms, the answer is a resounding YES! There are exceptions to almost every rule, and high risk pregnancies are where caution should be used and doctor’s permission granted before proceeding with getting a massage. Some feel getting a massage during the first trimester of pregnancy is contraindicated. There are numerous articles published on this subject, and the best advice we can give is that if you are uncomfortable with it, don’t do it…or have a conversation with your doctor to help you make the decision to massage or not to massage.
